Valuation Analyst

Michael Brown brings a broad and well-rounded background to the appraisal profession, with a strong emphasis on sports memorabilia and collectibles. Before dedicating himself exclusively to valuation work, he spent over a decade involved in the acquisition and private sale of high-end collectibles, including trading cards, autographs, game-worn apparel, and sports ephemera. His career later expanded into cataloging consignments for regional auction houses and managing estate dispersals that featured significant sports collections — experiences that laid the groundwork for his transition into full-time appraisal services.

Since entering the field, Michael has participated in dozens of appraisal fairs and collector events across multiple states, including programs hosted by museums, historical societies, libraries, and PBS-affiliated organizations. He has also attended major national conventions such as The National Sports Collectors Convention (NSCC) and other industry trade shows, which provide exposure to current market trends and pricing for vintage and modern sports assets. His expertise is continually reinforced by ongoing professional development through respected industry associations.

Michael’s credentials extend beyond traditional memorabilia. He maintains strong working knowledge of adjacent markets such as ticket stubs, programs, championship rings, and limited-edition collectibles. Recognized as an expert witness in personal property matters, he has provided testimony and depositions in multiple state court cases, lending credible, impartial analysis to complex legal proceedings involving high-value collections.

At Varsity Valuations LLC, Michael’s approach is rooted in independence and integrity — never buying, selling, or taking a financial interest in the items he appraises. This ensures that every opinion of value is objective, well-supported, and defensible, whether for insurance, estate, donation, or resale purposes.
